Matthias Herdegen completed his law studies at the universities of Heidelberg and Cambridge, graduating with the First State Examination in 1981. In 1983, he earned his doctorate from the University of Heidelberg and passed the Second State Examination in 1985. After his habilitation in 1989, he became professor for Public Law at the University of Bonn in 1990. The following year, he received an offer for a full professorship at the University of Konstanz. Since 1995, Matthias Herdegen has been a full professor at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University in Bonn. He is Honorary professor at the Universidad Pontificia Javeriana (Bogotá) and visiting professor at numerous European and non-European universities, including, inter alia, University Paris I (Sorbonne), New York University (Global Law School), Universidad Autónoma de México and University of St. Gallen (HSG). Matthias Herdegen’s research focusses on Constitutional law, European law, International law, International Economic law and Biotechnology law.
