Vinod Kambli (pronunciationⓘ; born 18 January 1972)[1] is an Indian former international cricketer, who played for India as a left-handed middle order batsman, as well as for Mumbai and Boland, South Africa.[2][3] Kambli became the first cricketer to score a century in a One-day International on his birthday.[4] He was a part of the squad which finished as runners-up at the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy.
He has the highest career batting average for an Indian test cricketer of 54[5][6] but he played his last test when he was just 23 years old. Thereafter, he was only considered for One Day International matches, although his last appearance in that format was also at the young age of 28.[7][8]
He has appeared as a commentator on various television channels and worked with a Marathi news channel as a cricket expert for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.[9][10] He has also been a part of various reality shows and done a few serials and Bollywood films as an actor. 1. Fatherly influence
Cairns’ father Lance was an all-rounder who represented New Zealand in 43 Tests and 78 One-Day Internationals (ODIs). He was also a very exciting batsman, with a career strike-rate of 104.88 in ODIs. Cairns senior played his last international game in 1985. Just four years later, his son donned the Black Cap.
2. Early excellence in rugby
Not only did Cairns play cricket, but he also made a name in rugby as a youngster and was named in New Zealand under-17s reserve side for one of their series in the late 1980s.
