New York City Center has just reopened following a historic renovation and modernization with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and star-studded gala last night, October 25 at New York City Center. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg conducted The Encores! Orchestra in the opening number (as a nod to Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia, who conducted the New York Philharmonic when City Center opened as a performing arts center in 1943). Chamber Dance Project's 2007 repertory season will include two new premiere ballets by Diane Coburn Bruning and Matthew Prescott, a commissioned score by Giovanni Spinelli, and two contemporary ballets by Victor Quijada and Adam Hougland. The season, which runs December 6 - 9, opens with a Benefit Performance and party hosted by Bebe Neuwirth at the Joan Weill Center for Dance at the Ailey Citigroup Theater
